Manchester United star Mason Mount has already made a good impression on his new manager, Erik ten Hag, who was impressed with what he saw from the former Chelsea midfielder on his debut.
Signed for 55 million pounds after a long saga, Mount finally made his United debut, playing the first half of the friendly against Leeds United in Oslo, which Ten Hag’s side won 2-0.
After an impressive display in the first 45 minutes, Ten Hag made 11 changes to his team, but was pleased with what he saw from the new midfielder. In an interview with MUTV, the coach said he was enthusiastic about the “dynamism” that the England international brings to the team.
“He will bring dynamism to our game and that was one of our conclusions last season,” said the Dutchman.
Ten Hag also said that Mount doesn’t just want to contribute in attack, but the fact that he’s willing to help out in defense is what makes him special.
“His vision is to play in attack. But he also wants to be multifunctional, he wants to be complete. When you play in midfield, you have to attack, but you also have to defend. We need to be more dynamic in midfield” said the former Ajax coach.
For the Premier League giants’ first pre-season match, the team featured several young players as well as some veterans.
Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho were all in the team, alongside players like Kobbie Mainoo and Omari Forson, who are part of the new generation of stars. Ten Hag would have been happy with the fact that the two goals scored by United were assisted by some of the lesser-known youngsters during the build-up. The tie was broken by Noam Emeran, who converted from close range before providing an assist for Joe Hugill, who secured the win.
Manchester United must play Lyon next, before heading to the United States to face Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
