D’Alessandro, a former Argentine footballer, has taken over as professional soccer coordinator at Cruzeiro, Ronaldo Nazário’s club. After months of working behind the scenes, D’Alessandro spoke to the media for the first time about his new position and the challenges ahead.
He thanked Cruzeiro for the opportunity to work off the pitch and contribute to rebuilding the club. D’Alessandro acknowledged the trust placed in him and highlighted the importance of the club’s strong structure and the guidelines set by Ronaldo.
D’Alessandro recognizes the difficult task ahead as Cruzeiro look to bounce back from three years in the second division. He stressed the need for focused work, and emphasized the club’s commitment to rebuilding and restructuring at all levels, including the youth ranks. He also mentioned that the process will take time and cannot be carried out overnight.
Regarding the team’s current performance in the Brasileirão (the team is in mid-table), D’Alessandro acknowledged the importance of results in soccer. He emphasized the need to continue the work started by the professionals and Ronaldo to ensure Cruzeiro’s qualification. Despite their current position in the standings, D’Alessandro believes in the team’s potential and the players’ strong mentality.
When talking about reinforcements, D’Alessandro mentioned that he believes in the current squad and the possibility of strengthening it. He emphasized the importance of an intense and competitive team, as well as highlighting the club’s caution in financial matters. Cruzeiro aims to grow without compromising its future, maintaining a serious and responsible approach to its budget.
D’Alessandro explained his role as coordinator of both Cruzeiro’s U-20 team and the professional squad. As he is still at the beginning of the job, he described the learning process and the need to adapt to new responsibilities. Although his days as a footballer are behind him, D’Alessandro remains committed to contributing to Cruzeiro’s success from his new role, even if it means being away from his family in Porto Alegre.
