Following the resignation of Bob Myers, the Golden State Warriors have announced the appointment of Mike Dunleavy Jr. as their new general manager. This surprising decision comes as the Warriors prepare for the summer of 2023 and the NBA draft, with Dunleavy tasked with resurrecting the Warriors as a title contender.
According to sources, the Warriors have received trade requests for some of their players from various clubs. As the long-awaited NBA draft approaches, there’s a lot of talk that the Warriors may try to move up the draft order from their current number 19 spot, perhaps using Jonathan-Kuminga as a trade asset. According to NBC Sports, new reports indicate that the Warriors are considering going the other way, contemplating a trade back situation while keeping Kuminga.
If the Warriors decide to make a trade during the draft, Jonathan Kuminga will be considered one of their most desirable bargaining chips. Despite minimal playing time over the last two seasons, Kuminga has shown a lot of promise and has a diverse skill set, which makes him an attractive possibility for potential swap partners.
Kuminga showed flashes of his brilliance from last season, averaging 9.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. His field goal percentage was 52.5%, his three-point shooting percentage was 37% and his free throw percentage was 65.2%. The young striker made 67 appearances, including 16 as a starter, and averaged just over 20 minutes per game. However, as the playoffs approached, Kuminga’s importance decreased dramatically, and his playing time dropped to 6.1 minutes per game. Although keeping Kuminga is a possibility, it’s clear that he would benefit from a more defined position next season.
Jonathan Kuminga, born on October 6, 2002, in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, is 1.80 m tall and weighs 90 kg. He’s an NBA power forward for the Golden State Warriors.
Kuminga, widely considered one of the league’s most promising prospects, decided to forgo his college eligibility and join the NBA-G-League’s Ignite after being named a consensus five-star recruit and the best small forward in the class of 2021.
