Veteran Brazilian footballer Danilo expressed his opinion on the role that more experienced players should play in the future of the Seleção team, as well as being asked about the managerial position currently vacant in the Brazilian national team. Danilo emphasized the immense responsibilities that the more experienced players will have to take on, as the Brazilian national team is passing the baton to the next generation, with players like Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo excelling on a regular basis.
Danilo was speaking to the press after Brazil’s 4-1 win over Guinea
as part of the anti-racism campaign started in support of Vinicius Jr., who has unfortunately had to deal with a lot of racist abuse throughout the season. The former Manchester City player was asked seven questions, six of which referred to the alleged hiring of Carlo Ancelotti as coach of the Brazilian national team. Although Ancelotti has denied such rumors, at least as long as he is contracted to Real Madrid, the rumors continue to intensify.
“Of course, the subject of our next coach dominated everything, because it’s normal for that to happen. At this time, when there’s caution when it comes to deciding who the next coach will be, it’s time for us more experienced players to repay what we’ve already received from the national team.” said Danilo.
The veteran also acknowledged that it was time for the more experienced members of the team, such as himself, to mentor the younger players and ensure a smooth transition for the next-generation Brazilian team.
“We have an obligation to give a little more to maintain stability for these young players who are getting their first opportunities. Right now, our role is to make whatever the president decides work. That way, we’ll have more peace of mind to work with. The president is a guy who listens a lot, is always present and active” concluded the Juventus player.
