On September 5 and 6, 2023, basketball fans around the world were on the edge of their seats as four fascinating competitions unfolded, showcasing the brilliance of some of the world’s greatest basketball talents. The stage was set for the long-awaited semi-finals and the final showdown of this famous competition, with fierce fights and outstanding performances.
Lithuania-Serbia – 68-87
Serbia confirmed their supremacy with an overwhelming victory over Lithuania. Bogdan Bogdanovic led the Serbian attack with 21 points, while Domantas Sabonis contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds. In Lithuania’s attempt to dethrone the favorites, Marius Grigonis led the way with 18 points.
Italy – USA – 63:100
In another action-packed quarter-final, the United States reinforced their intentions of winning the championship by beating Italy. Mikal Bridges led the American attack with 24 points, which was matched by Tyrese Haliburton’s 18 points and 5 assists. Italy’s Nicolo Melli led his team with 14 points, but couldn’t stop the American attack.
Germany-Latvia – 81-79
The match was played out in an equal and obstinate struggle. The teams were within a few points of each other for three quarters. In the middle of the final period, the Germans managed to lead by 14 points, but World Cup debutants Latvia almost pulled off another feat. They reduced the gap to minus two points, but didn’t have time to take the game to extra time. 81-79 – Germany in the semi-finals. Johannes Voigtmann was the driving force behind the German victory; he scored 18 points and grabbed 9 important rebounds, and Dennis Schroeder added 17 points. Latvia’s Dairis Bertans showed his skill with 21 points.
Canada-Slovenia – 98:85
The third quarter turned out to be decisive, when the Canadians managed to secure a decisive lead. R.J. Barrett led Canada’s attack with 25 points, while Shai Gilges-Alexander scored 22 points. Slovenia’s Luka Doncic showed his skills with 20 points and 10 assists.
