Last Monday brought news from Corinthians: the Brazilian team gave the green light for defender Murillo Santiago Costa to undergo medical examinations at Premier League side Nottingham Forest and the subsequent contract negotiations, after which he crossed the seas to complete his transfer to the former UEFA Champions League winners (1979 and 1980).
Negotiations to complete the transfer had progressed over the previous week, as several sources in Brazil had reported. The official stamp was stamped by the São Paulo team at the end of the week, giving the player permission to travel and finalize the transfer.
To understand the mechanics of the deal, the contract the Brazilian defender signed has several clauses, including an initial fee, add-ons and a sell-on clause. Right off the bat, Timão’s pockets were lined with 13 million euros, with the possibility of an additional 3 million euros (the equivalent of R$10.5 million) if the player’s performance meets a set of pre-negotiated conditions.
Corinthians will not simply say goodbye to Murillo without a golden handshake. They also negotiated a 20% reservation on any future transfer fee involving the 21-year-old defensive talent. It is likely that the Brazilian club will reveal the exact terms of the deal when the negotiation is fully concluded.
Before receiving the official stamp of release, Murillo shared a touching farewell with his teammates on the pitch. The moment Murillo said goodbye to the fans and his teammates was captured by U-20 coach Danilo, who has been influential in the player’s meteoric rise, especially in the last year. Danilo will join World Cup winner Gonzalo Montiel, who also completed his move to Nottingham Forest last week.
