Santos Futebol Clube made an important announcement on Monday, revealing the signing of Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos. The 27-year-old striker has committed himself to the team with a contract that runs until August 31, 2025.
Alfredo Morelos arrived at Santos as a free agent after a successful six-season spell at Rangers in Scotland, where he etched his name in the club’s history books. During his time at Rangers, Morelos scored an impressive 125 goals and provided 32 assists in 269 appearances. His achievements include the Scottish championship and the national cup.
Although he is mainly known as a center-forward, Morelos brings versatility to his new team, able to play on the wings as well. This versatility is particularly valuable for Santos, who faced a gap in the more advanced positions following the departures of Ângelo, Lucas Barbosa and Daniel Ruiz. In recent matches, Jean Lucas has adapted well to this role.
Morelos’ journey to Europe began after starting his career with Independiente Medellín in Colombia. He ventured abroad in 2015, securing a loan move to Finnish side HJK, which eventually resulted in a permanent move the following season. In 2017, the Colombian striker moved to Rangers, where he enjoyed great success.
Internationally, Alfredo Morelos represented the Colombian national team, notably taking part in the 2021 Copa America. With 11 appearances and one goal scored in the national colors, he adds a valuable dimension to the Santos club.
The signing of Alfredo Morelos marks another significant addition for Santos, underlining their ambition and commitment to strengthening their squad for the upcoming challenges in national and international competitions.
