After losing the
German Super Cup 0-3 to Leibzig
Bayern started the season with a confident 4-0 win over Werder Bremen. The reigning German champions had 25 shots (10 on target) against the hosts’ 6 shots (1 on target).
Note that the last time Werder beat Bayern was in 2008. On that occasion, Bremen won 5-2 in Munich. After that, the rivals played 27 matches against each other. Bayern won 23 of them, drawing four times. As you can see, Werder’s statistics aren’t the most pleasing, and they failed to break that streak by losing again.
In the fourth minute, Harry Kane, a newcomer to Bayern, scored his first goal in the Bundesliga. Leroy Sane came face to face with the goalkeeper and opened the scoring – 1:0. Four minutes later, Bremen recovered, but the referee disallowed the goal due to an offside position. In the 21st minute, Mazraoui shot Pavlenka from the edge of the area, but it hit the left post.
At the start of the second half, Werder created several dangerous situations near the visitors’ gates, but Bitencourt and Füllkrug shot wide. The home side soon paid the price for failing to take advantage of these opportunities. In the 58th minute, Coman hit the post and, in the 74th minute, Davis slipped a pass from the edge of the box to Kane – the Englishman’s first goal for his new club – 2:0.
At the end of the game, in the 85th minute, Mazraoui fended off a defender on the counter-attack, but he didn’t give it to Tel, in front of whom there were empty nets, but he was greedy and shot at the goalkeeper. In the 90th minute, Sane scored twice. Because he was barred, he didn’t go to the Choupo-Motinga transfer. Coman chased after the ball, caught it and gave it to Sanya – 3-0. In stoppage time, Bayern secured an important victory. Davis gave Tel a pass – 4:0.
The match also saw another exciting summer signing, Kim Min-jae, make his league debut for Bayern. As the team looks to extend its astonishing run of 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles, the addition of dynamic talents like Kane and Min-jae promises an electrifying season ahead.
Amid the jubilation on the pitch, a minute’s silence was observed in honor of former Bremen player Horst-Dieter Höttges, who was a vital part of West Germany’s triumphant 1974 World Cup team and passed away in July. The touching moment added depth to a night marked by Kane’s impactful debut and Bayern’s stellar performance.
