Barcelona and Neymar have reportedly reached a comprehensive agreement for the player’s return, but the finalization of the transfer depends on Xavi’s position. According to journalist Javi Miguel, Xavi’s reservations about Neymar are causing delays in completing the deal.
Contrary to previous media reports suggesting an imminent deal, Barcelona’s acquisition of Neymar is still far from finalized. Javi Miguel explains that only a direct conversation between Xavi and Neymar can remove the obstacles that stand in the way.
Recent reports from Barça Universal suggested that Neymar’s contract with Barcelona was almost complete. Journalist Jose Alvarez said that both parties had reached a complete agreement on personal terms.
The alleged agreement provides for a two-year contract between Neymar and Barcelona, valued at 13 million euros net, plus possible bonuses. Notably, the contract is said to include a clause for a possible one-year extension.
However, there are critical aspects that have yet to be resolved, preventing the deal from being officially sealed. Neymar needs to agree to terminate his contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to facilitate his transfer to Barcelona. In addition, the signing of the Brazilian player by Barça depends on the completion of one or two player departures, opening up space in the team.
The central point in the process is Xavi’s approval, as the coach seems uncertain about Neymar’s compatibility with the current Barcelona team. Despite Xavi’s reservations, the club is supposedly in favor of the transfer. Neymar’s return would not only serve as a headline signing for the summer, compensating for the loss of Lionel Messi’s signing, but would also offer Barcelona monetary benefits, especially considering the recent financial challenges related to the transfer to Montjuic.
Although Neymar’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 was the most expensive in soccer history, recent comments from PSG coach Luis Enrique indicate that the club is open to Neymar leaving. Enrique emphasized the club’s philosophy and its priority above any individual player or coach.
As the situation develops, it remains to be seen whether Xavi’s concerns can be alleviated and whether Neymar’s return to Barcelona will materialize. The finalization of the agreement, it seems, depends on the resolution of these remaining factors, and only time will reveal the outcome.
