Bayern Munich’s search for a goalkeeper is nearing its conclusion, although the Bundesliga giants have decided not to negotiate with David de Gea after losing their main target, Stefan Ortega. The Bavarian giants are ready to sign a surprise candidate for the goalkeeper position, after failing to convince Manchester City to get rid of their backup goalkeeper, Brazilian Ederson.
Pep Guardiola recently hinted that the three-time champions want to keep Ortega, and Bayern have therefore been linked with De Gea, who has been a free agent since leaving Manchester United at the start of the summer.
The Spaniard has completed 12 years at the club, however the 32-year-old has been replaced by Andre Onana, with Erik ten Hag looking to revolutionize the way United build their defence. De Gea was also linked with Real Madrid, who suffered a blow after Thibaut Courtois suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but Real Madrid decided to loan Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.
The Manchester United legend is still without a club as the transfer window closes in two weeks. Meanwhile, Bayern have decided to sign Daniel Peretz from Maccabi Tel Aviv to replace Yann Sommer.
The Swiss international left the Allianz Arena to join Inter Milan, replacing Onana at the San Siro. Bayern’s first-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer suffered a leg fracture while skiing last season, and the German player has resumed rehabilitation training, but his return looks unlikely in the near future.
That’s after Thomas Tuchel’s side decided to loan Alexander Nubel to Stuttgart at the start of the year.
David de Gea, for his part, will probably lower his ambition and sign for a smaller team in order to return to top-level soccer. There is one positive point for the Spain international: he can join any team even after the transfer window closes, as he remains a free agent.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s search for a goalkeeper seems to be coming to an end, as the club is finalizing a deal for Peretz, after having talked to David Raya, De Gea, Ortega and Arrizabalaga, among others.
