The transfer saga of Brighton and Hove Albion’s midfield star Moises Caicedo has taken many twists and turns. The Ecuadorian’s departure from Brighton seems certain, but his destination is still unclear at the moment, after a major development in recent days, when it was believed that the transfer was finalized. Caicedo has had several suitors in the last two transfer windows, all Premier League heavyweights, but the midfielder’s decision has not yet been made.
The closest Caicedo came to leaving the Amex Stadium was in the January transfer window, when Arsenal, then league leaders, were incredibly close to an agreement with the Seagulls in an 80 million euro deal. However, despite a public statement from Caicedo asking Brighton for permission to leave the club, manager Roberto de Zerbi decided to keep the player, with the promise that he would be sold in the summer transfer window if a suitable offer arrived.
In recent months, Arsenal have turned to other business, having signed Jorginho in January; secured the signing of Declan Rice in a highly successful deal, before negotiating with Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya. Since then, Chelsea have been in regular contact with Brighton about signing Caicedo, and it was also reported that the player had agreed personal terms with Chelsea. However, there was no agreement between the clubs on the transfer fee, as Brighton were expecting a package of more than 100 million euros.
At the last moment, Liverpool made an impressive offer for the player, putting in a bid of 110 million, which Brighton accepted. However, in yet another twist, Caicedo reportedly rejected Liverpool’s offer and decided to wait for Chelsea, who have yet to make an offer, which he is expected to do. It’s not yet known what will happen, considering all the events that have taken place so far, but at the moment Liverpool have Brighton’s permission to negotiate with Caicedo, while Chelsea have yet to make an offer for the player.
