Amid the problem of Roma’s lack of strikers, coach José Mourinho clarified his recent Instagram post, denying any intention to provoke the club’s hierarchy and acknowledging the challenges that exist. The experienced 60-year-old coach expressed his feelings, emphasizing that the situation at the club is far from ideal.
Mourinho’s photo on Instagram showed him and his coaching staff interacting with an invisible player, symbolizing the lack of a striker hired to compensate for the absence of injured striker Tammy Abraham. Despite the perceived provocation, Mourinho made it clear to Corriere dello Sport that this was not his motivation.
Addressing the terrible situation arising from the anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by Abraham last season, Mourinho expressed his frustration at the situation, saying: “All is not well, but… I get angry for an hour and then go back to being positive about things.“
With potential signings such as Alvaro Morata and Gianluca Scamacca not materializing, Roma face an uphill task in their preparation for next season. Mourinho denied rumors of a fight with the club, stating that he is not in an “open war” with the board.
While acknowledging the difficulty of the situation and expressing his disappointment, Mourinho maintained his characteristic pragmatism, citing the practical challenges of securing a replacement in a reasonable timeframe. As Roma prepare for the start of the 2023-24 campaign, which kicks off against Salernitana on August 20, Mourinho’s words reflect the complex dynamics surrounding the club’s ongoing quest to solve its striker shortage.
