In a shocking incident that shook the soccer world, the famous Brazilian star Paulo Roberto Falcão was accused of sexual assault by a hotel receptionist in Santos. Despite vigorously contesting these allegations, Falcão chose to step down from his high-profile position as Santos FC’s sporting director.
The incidents allegedly happened on two different occasions, according to a 26-year-old complainant who alleges that Falcão had non-consensual physical contact with her. The establishment’s security cameras played an important role in revealing the facts. According to the complainant’s legal advisor, the matter was formally presented to police organizations specializing in cases involving domestic violence, family disputes and sexual crimes.
A domestic worker who was present during the events apparently verified Falcão’s alleged harassment, confirming the victim’s testimony. According to the plaintiff’s lawyer, Pamela Mendes, Falcão’s behavior was consistent on both occasions, involving unwanted fondling of the victim’s arm with his genitals while she was at her desk.
Faced with the seriousness of these allegations, Falcão took to social media to announce his resignation from the prestigious position of sports director of Santos FC, which he had assumed in November 2022.
Falco said in a public statement: “Out of deep respect for the dedicated fans of Santos FC… I have taken the decision to step down as sports coordinator with immediate effect.” He went on to claim his innocence, saying: “I was surprised when I heard about these allegations in the media.” I totally refute their veracity. This is something that has never happened before. Falco concluded by emphasizing his main objective of protecting the institution’s reputation.
According to the Brazilian Penal Code, the possible legal implications of the charges range from one to five years in prison. Falcao, whose history in soccer is absolutely extraordinary, first came to Brazil in 1985 to play for São Paulo, winning the Paulista Championship in 1985 and 1987. His great career included appearances for the Brazilian national team, when they won the FIFA World Cup in 1970 and 1982.
He went on to work as a manager after retiring from active service. Falcão was manager of several famous Brazilian clubs, including Internacional, São Paulo and Palmeiras.
