Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has covered his back with a series of new tattoos in a heartfelt tribute to the late Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers superstar and basketball hero. Bryant’s ongoing reputation as a symbol of hard work, commitment and greatness has left an unshakeable mark on other athletes, including Morant.
Morant’s new tattoos were shown on NBA Tattoo’s Instagram account, where fans were intrigued by the passionate artwork. The tattoos depicted his journey through all the phases of his basketball career, paying homage to all the teams he played for, from high school to his current position in the NBA with the Grizzlies. The genuine allusions to Kobe Bryant, however, were the most moving aspects of his inscribed tribute.
Morant placed the distinctive Black Mamba symbol on his lower back, a sign linked to Kobe’s relentless competition and unrivaled determination. In addition, the number “24”, which Bryant wore with pride during his Lakers era, was inscribed in the iconic Lakers font, with the term “Mentality” written at the top.
Even Bryant’s former teammate and NBA Hall of Fame member Shaquille O’Neal saw similarities between Morant and the Black Mamba. Morant has the same “it” factor as Kobe and emanates a comparable demeanor on the court, according to O’Neal. Morant, on the other hand, modestly rejected the comparison, admitting that there can only be one Kobe Bryant, given the strength of the latter’s personality and his unique effect on sport.
Kobe Bryant’s life was tragically cut short in a helicopter crash, leaving a vacuum in the basketball community that can never be completely replaced. As Morant’s profile grows in the NBA, fans and commentators expect him to stay focused and avoid trouble off the court. Morant’s potential is endless at just 23 years of age and, with constant dedication to his craft, he can build a bright future reminiscent of the Lakers legend.
