Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has been fined a hefty $3.3 million, the equivalent of 16 million reais, for violating environmental regulations during the construction of his coastal mansion on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The local authorities allegedly accused Neymar of violating the use and handling of fresh water sources, rocks and sand for the construction of an artificial lake at the soccer star’s luxurious mansion. The PSG star has therefore been fined a hefty $3.3 million and Neymar has 20 days to appeal the penalty imposed on him by the Brazilian authorities.
According to AFP, the former Barcelona striker bought the 107,000 square meter luxury property in Mangarabita in 2016, when he was still playing for Barça. Neymar’s luxurious mansion includes many facilities, such as a gym, spa and helipad.
The Mangaratiba City Hall statement confirmed that Neymar had been fined four times for “environmental infractions in the construction of an artificial lake at the player’s mansion”.
The local authorities became aware of the environmental violations through several complaints made on social media. When the investigation began, they discovered that an artificial lake and beach had been built in Neymar’s luxury apartment, which violated environmental rules.
The mansion was later closed by the authorities, but the soccer star allegedly threw a party there and also took a dip in the artificial lake.
For those who don’t know, the 31-year-old has had a hectic couple of months, having been accused of cheating on his girlfriend Bruna Biancardi, who is also pregnant with the couple’s first child. The soccer star himself published a lengthy apology on social media.
The Brazilian star is currently sidelined because of an injury he suffered in early February during a Ligue 1 match and was subsequently ruled out for the rest of the season. Once again, Neymar has been strongly associated with a departure, and rumors of his desire to return to Barcelona abound.
