The Brazilian national team’s search for Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has finally borne fruit, with the Italian coach set to take over as national team coach from the 2024 Copa America. Ancelotti’s current contract with Madrid expires at the end of next season, after which he will accept the position of coach of the Brazilian national team, which has been vacant since Tite was sacked following the failure of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
CBF president Ednaldo has reportedly confirmed that Ancelotti will be the new coach of the Brazilian national team “from the 2024 Copa America”, according to a recent tweet by transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano.
After Brazil’s early exit from the World Cup at the hands of Croatia, the country had their eye on Ancelotti, but due to his ongoing contract with Madrid, he decided to join Brazil next season.
According to reports, Fernando Diniz will be the national team’s coach for a period of 12 months, after which Ancelotti will take over. Incidentally, Diniz will conciliate this work by remaining Fluminense’s coach. The Rio de Janeiro club are sixth in the league and have also reached the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores.
The 64-year-old was coaching Everton in the Premier League when Real Madrid made contact in 2021 and has since led the club to the La Liga title in 2021-22, becoming the only manager to win titles in Europe’s top five leagues.
Don Carlo then led Madrid to their 14th Champions League title, in which the team had incredible comebacks, beating teams like Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Italian is currently in his second spell at the club and was the coach who ended Madrid’s long wait for the coveted “La Decima” or 10th Champions League title in 2014, when Sergio Ramos’ late header revived Real Madrid, who beat Atlético Madrid 4-1 in extra time.
Ancelotti, who has already said he would like to retire at Real Madrid, will almost certainly take over as coach of the national team, while the La Liga giants will probably also have a new coach next season.
