The group stage of the 2023 Copa Libertadores has come to an end. The teams that took the first two places in their quartets advanced to the 1/8 finals. The clubs that finished third will continue the season in the Copa Sudamericana 1/16. Note that of the seven Brazilian clubs, Internacional, Palmeiras, Fluminense and Atlético Paranaense came first, while Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro came second. Only Corinthians finished third. The draw for the Round of 16 is scheduled for July 21 and the first playoff matches for August 1-3.
Group A
In Group A of the 2023 Copa Libertadores, the group stage concluded with Racing from Argentina and Flamengo from Brazil securing their places in the last 16. Racing dominated the group, winning four of their six matches and collecting 13 points. They showed their attacking prowess by scoring 13 goals and conceding just 6. Flamengo, on the other hand, finished second with 11 points, thanks to three wins and two draws. Chile’s Ñublense managed to secure a place in the Copa Sudamericana with their five points, while Ecuador’s Aucas were unfortunately eliminated with just four points.
Group B
Brazil’s Internacional and Uruguay’s Nacional have booked their places in the last 16 of Group B in the group stage of the 2023 Copa Libertadores. Internacional topped the group with an unbeaten record, collecting 12 points from three wins and three draws. The team had a balanced performance, scoring 10 goals and conceding 6. Nacional finished second with 11 points, winning three games and drawing two. Colombia’s Independiente Medellín secured a place in the Copa Sudamericana with 10 points, while Venezuela’s Metropolitanos failed to secure a single point, leading to their elimination.
Group C
In Group C of the 2023 Copa Libertadores group stage, Brazil’s Palmeiras and Bolivia’s Bolívar have progressed to the last 16. Palmeiras dominated the group, winning five of their six matches and collecting an impressive 15 points. Bolívar finished in second place with 12 points, winning four games and suffering two defeats. Ecuador’s Barcelona and Paraguay’s Cerro Porteño had disappointing campaigns, securing just 4 points each and subsequently being eliminated from the competition. Barcelona will now play in the Copa Sudamericana.
Group D
Brazil’s Fluminense and Argentina’s River Plate successfully progressed to the last 16 as Group D of the 2023 Copa Libertadores group stage drew to a close. Fluminense finished top of the group with 10 points, winning three games and drawing one. The team showed a strong attack, scoring 10 goals and conceding just 6. River Plate also collected 10 points, but finished second due to an inferior goal difference. Peru’s Sporting Cristal had a good campaign, securing 8 points and qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana. Bolivia’s The Strongest finished on six points and failed to progress to the next round.
Group E
Ecuador’s Independiente del Valle and Argentina’s Argentinos Juniors have qualified for the round of 16 in Group E of the 2023 Copa Libertadores. Independiente del Valle topped the group with 12 points, winning four games and showing a solid defense by conceding just five goals. Argentinos Juniors finished second with 11 points, winning three games and drawing two. Brazil’s Corinthians finished in last place with 7 points and will now play in the Copa Sudamericana. Liverpool of Uruguay had a disappointing campaign, securing just four points and being eliminated from the tournament.
Group F
Argentina’s Boca Juniors and Colombia’s Deportivo Pereira have successfully booked their places in the last 16 with the conclusion of Group F of the 2023 Copa Libertadores group stage. Boca Juniors topped the group with an impressive 13 points, winning four games and conceding just two goals. Deportivo Pereira finished second with 8 points, winning two games and drawing two. Chile’s Colo-Colo had an uneven campaign, securing 6 points and qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana. Venezuela’s Monagas struggled, managing just five points and failing to progress to the next round.
Group G
In Group G of the 2023 Copa Libertadores group stage, Brazil’s Athletico Paranaense and Atlético Mineiro advanced to the last 16. Athletico Paranaense topped the group with an impressive 13 points, winning four games and demonstrating a strong defense by conceding just four goals. Atlético Mineiro finished in second place with 10 points, winning three games and suffering two defeats. Libertad, from Paraguay, secured 7 points and will now play in the Copa Sudamericana. Peru’s Alianza Lima had a challenging campaign, picking up just four points and being eliminated from the competition.
Group H
Paraguay’s Olimpia and Colombia’s Atlético Nacional have successfully booked their places in the last 16 with the end of Group H of the 2023 Copa Libertadores group stage. Olimpia dominated the group, remaining unbeaten and finishing top with 14 points. The team produced an impressive attacking performance, scoring 13 goals and conceding just 4. Atlético Nacional secured second place with 10 points, winning three games and drawing one. Patronato of Argentina had a challenging campaign, securing 6 points and qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana. Peruvian side Melgar had a disappointing campaign with just four points and failed to progress in the competition. Olimpia and Atlético Nacional now await the Round of 16 matches.
