The Los Angeles Lakers management didn’t have much trouble choosing their pick during the 2023 NBA draft, selecting Jalen Hood-Schifino with the 17th pick. Team executive Rob Pelinka acknowledged his appreciation for the excellent physical characteristics and other valuable skills of the Indiana University point guard, boldly saying that Hood-Schifino will fit in perfectly with the Lakers’ roster. Due to his flexibility, Pelinka believes that the playmaker has the ability to complement Austin Reaves effectively.
Although many argued that the Lakers should choose wing Cam Whitmore in the 17th round, the franchise finally opted for Hood-Schifino or Kobe Bufkin, another talented wing. According to sources, the preference for a point guard stemmed from the organization’s desire to find a suitable alternative for Reaves, should he receive a larger contract offer that the Lakers were reluctant or unable to match.
