Palmeiras lost 1-0 to Botafogo
in the 12th round of the Brazilian Championship, coach Abel Ferreira expressed his unwavering confidence in the team’s ability to defend the title to the end. Despite the eight-point gap between Palmeiras and Botafogo, who currently lead the competition, Ferreira emphasized that the season is still in its early stages and that Palmeiras will continue to accumulate points.
Ferreira acknowledged the lack of efficiency shown by Palmeiras in the match, but argued that the team didn’t deserve to lose, considering the volume of chances created. He also praised Botafogo for their mature performance, recognizing that they had taken the lead in the Brasileirão.
The Portuguese coach lamented Palmeiras’ lack of luck, pointing to the twelfth disallowed goal in the league and acknowledging that the opposition defended well. Ferreira emphasized the importance of happiness and ability in soccer, giving credit to Botafogo for its success in capitalizing on its opportunities. After the defeat, Palmeiras dropped to third place in the Brasileirão standings on 22 points, eight points behind Botafogo.
Looking ahead, Ferreira reiterated his team’s intention to keep winning, regardless of the venue. He shifted his focus to the upcoming Libertadores clash against Bolívar-BOL on Thursday, stressing the importance of securing top spot in Group C with a win.
