Several Brazilian veterans have expressed their support for the Brazilian Football Confederation’s (CBF) decision to go after renowned Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti to fill the vacant position of national team coach. Former Barcelona star Rivaldo, current senior professional Neymar Jr. as well as Ramon Menezes, who is acting as interim coach, have backed the CBF’s search for the Real Madrid coach.
According to various reports from reputable sources, Carlo Ancelotti has agreed to become the coach of the Brazilian national team after his contract with Real Madrid expires. Ancelotti’s contract in the Spanish capital runs until 2024 and, although there has been no official confirmation of the reported deal, important members of the Brazilian team have expressed confidence.
“Ancelotti to Brazil? It will be historic. I hope he will be our first foreign coach and that we will be world champions with him in 2026, when the World Cup is held in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America.” said Ramon Menezes.
During the recent international window, Brazil
Brazil suffered a 4-2 defeat to Senegal
and the coach of the U-20 team, Ramon Menezes, had to take over. However, it seems that all the Brazilian players, including the captain, have their eye on the Italian idol.
Ancelotti has not spoken about the matter publicly, stating that he is under contract at Real Madrid and will make a decision on the matter soon. The Italian was extremely successful on his return to Madrid, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League during his tenure.
Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar also praised the Italian, calling him an “incredible coach”.
“I can’t say much because I don’t know much either. I know he’s plan A for the national team. The president is counting on him, and we want him there too. For me, for Vini, for Militão. … we know him and we know of his greatness. Ancelotti has won everything and I’m sure he’ll teach us a lot. We hope he will come after his contract expires. We’re confident.” Neymar Jr. added.
Rodrygo, the winger who had a meteoric rise at Madrid, admitted that although Don Carlo remains an important man for Real Madrid, Brazilian players would like to be coached by him on the international stage too.
Many times during last season, the Madrid coach had to reaffirm his desire to fulfill his current contract, although it seems that the CBF has convinced the Italian that he will take over next year.
