Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has put his mansion in Cheshire up for rent, leading to speculation about a possible move to the club. The luxurious six-bedroom, six-bathroom property, with games room, home office, gym and staff accommodation, is being rented privately by high-end letting agents at a monthly rate of over £15,000. This development adds to rumors that the 21-year-old striker could be preparing to join a foreign club on loan from the Premier League.
Greenwood has been absent from United’s line-up since January 2022, when he faced charges of attempted rape, assault and engaging in controlling and authoritarian behavior. However, all charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February after key witnesses withdrew and new evidence emerged. Although the club has suspended Greenwood pending an internal investigation into the allegations, he remains under contract for a further two years, receiving a weekly salary of £100,000.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Greenwood has been seen training with a private coach, concentrating on maintaining his fitness. He was recently photographed honing his control and kicking skills during a 90-minute session at a public sports center. Manchester United are reportedly supporting Greenwood’s individual efforts in training and could reach a decision on his future before the start of pre-season on July 3, under the guidance of coach Erik ten Hag.
Mirror Football understands that once the internal investigation is complete, Manchester United will seek the views of interested parties, including commercial partners, fans and members of the club’s Women’s Super League team. This approach aims to ensure that any decision made regarding the future of Greenwood is approved by all parties involved.
Having scored 22 goals in 83 Premier League games since his debut in March 2019, Greenwood has established himself as an important player at his boyhood club. He also has one England senior cap, earned in a match against Iceland in September 2020. Although the club recently confirmed Greenwood’s status on its list of retained players, the availability of his mansion for rent suggests a possible departure from Old Trafford, perhaps on loan to a foreign team.
Although United have entered into discussions with Italian clubs Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan regarding a transfer, any decision on Greenwood’s future is expected to take into account the opinions of the coaching staff and the possible commercial implications. As Greenwood prepares for the arrival of his son this summer, it remains to be seen whether Manchester United will give him another chance or explore other options on the transfer market.
