Vasco da Gama, who are actively seeking experienced reinforcements, have their eye on 35-year-old Chilean midfielder Gary Medel. The player, who recently ended his contract with Italian club Bologna, is now available to sign for a new club.
Talks between Vasco da Gama and Medel began last week, with the Brazilian club offering a contract until December 2024. The Chile international has shown interest in the possibility, as he wants to continue playing in a competitive league like the Campeonato Brasileiro. However, Boca Juniors, Medel’s former club, are also considering signing the player.
Vasco da Gama see Medel as an excellent opportunity to strengthen their squad. The Chilean brings versatility to the team, being able to play both as a defensive midfielder and as a defender, two positions in which the club needs reinforcements. In addition, Medel’s experience and winning mentality make him an attractive prospect for Vasco. The club has also made offers to other players, such as Maicon, Fernando, Lyanco and Lanzini.
Medel is part of Chile’s golden generation, having won the Copa America championship in 2015 and 2016. He has also represented his country in two World Cups (2010 and 2014) and has played for renowned clubs such as Universidad Católica, Boca Juniors, Sevilla, Inter Milan, Besiktas and Bologna, where he has spent the last four seasons.
As negotiations progress, Vasco da Gama intend to secure the signing of Gary Medel, hoping to benefit from his vast experience and leadership on the pitch in the coming campaigns.
