Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, who is currently on international duty, has been trying to convince his England team-mates Harry Kane and Declan Rice to join the Red Devils before next season. The Three Lions played their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia at Old Trafford on June 19.
Both Kane and Rice have been linked with United, while the former is also on Real Madrid’s wish list and Arsenal are closing in on signing the latter. Shaw, however, doesn’t mind doing all he can to convince his countrymen to join the Reds.
“I’d love some of them to join us – I’m not going to lie,” Shaw said ahead of Monday’s qualifying match.
“We don’t normally talk about it, but because of the time of the season and what’s going on, there’s a lot of talk, a lot of banter,” revealed the 27-year-old.
Gareth Southgate’s side have been training at United’s training ground in Carrington and Shaw recently shared a photo alongside Kane and Rice with an interesting caption: “Carrington Tour”. The former Southampton player added that he would love both of his teammates to join United.
Erik ten Hag’s side are in dire need of a new striker after Wout Weghorst’s loan failed, and they have been linked with a number of big names, including Kane and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but nothing has materialized so far. The Reds finished third under their new manager and also won the Carabao Cup, but they will certainly need more reinforcements if they are to challenge Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title next season.
Although there have been no arrivals at Old Trafford so far this season, Marcel Sabitzer, Weghorst and Jack Butland have returned to their parent clubs after their respective loans were not extended, and Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones have left the club after their contracts expired.
