With the 2022-23 Premier League season over, attention now turns to the upcoming 2023/24 season, as the fixtures for the following campaign were announced on Thursday, June 15.
Defending champions Manchester City are ready to start the defense of their title against newly promoted Burnley, one of the Championship’s heavyweights, at Turf Moor on Friday, August 11. It will be a reunion for former City legend Vincent Kompany, who will face his former boss Pep Guardiola in what promises to be a daunting first task on his return to the top flight.
As well as the clash between the two champions of the top two divisions, there are plenty of other drool-worthy games in the opening week, as Newcastle host Aston Villa, Tottenham take on Brentford, while new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino’s first task will be a tough home game against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on Sunday, August 13.
Manchester United will host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday, August 14, to round off the action from the opening day of the Premier League season.
Newly promoted teams Luton Town and Sheffield United will face Brighton and Crystal Palace simultaneously on Saturday, August 12.
Next season will conclude on May 19, with defending champions Manchester City wrapping up their campaign against West Ham, while Arsenal face Everton on the final day.
Guardiola and Mikel Arteta will renew their rivalry as their respective teams meet on October 7 at the Emirates, while the second leg will be played at the Etihad on March 30.
The first Manchester derby of the season will take place at Old Trafford on October 28, while the defending champions will host the Red Devils at the Etihad on March 2.
Similarly, the first north London derby of the 2023-24 season will be held at the Emirates Stadium on September 23, while Tottenham will host Arsenal at their new stadium on April 27.
The Merseyside derby will be played at Anfield on October 21, while Liverpool will make the short trip to Goodison Park to face Everton on March 16.
One of England’s greatest rivalries, Manchester United will travel to Liverpool on December 16, followed by the return leg at Old Trafford. on April 6th.
Guardiola and Klopp will face each other in one of the most modern rivalries of the Premier League era when City host the Reds on November 25, while the second leg is scheduled for March 9 at Anfield.
Although the 2023-24 Premier League season lasts nine months, starting on August 11 and ending on May 19, there will be a mid-season break for the players between January 14 and 20. Normally, the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year period is very hectic for teams, although this time there won’t be two rounds to be played 48 hours apart, which will be a big relief for managers.
The final of the 2023-24 Carabao Cup will be played on Sunday, February 25. Note that the Europa League final will be held in Dublin on May 22 and the Champions League final is scheduled to take place at the renowned Wembley Stadium on June 1.
