Manchester City and Brazil men’s national team goalkeeper Ederson hopes to fulfill his “dream” of winning the Champions League with his club. Pep Guardiola’s team is ready to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final, which will be played in Istanbul on June 11.
The Premier League giants are aiming for a historic treble, having already won a league and cup double after recently beating their arch-rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Although many consider City to be “favorites” for the title against Inter, Ederson believes that it’s not always the best team that wins the Champions League, but rather the team that manages to overcome all the obstacles before the title.
“This is the only title the club hasn’t won yet – it’s our main objective,” said Ederson ahead of the much-anticipated clash, in an interview with Four Four Two.
“It goes without saying that the team has improved a lot in recent years, but there’s still that piece of silverware missing from the trophy cabinet. But it’s not always the best team that wins; it’s the one that knows how to overcome all the different obstacles on the way to lifting the trophy” added the 29-year-old.
Guardiola’s side reached the final of the Champions League in 2021, but were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea, with Kai Havertz scoring the winning goal. Ederson said it was “frustrating” to lose in the final, but the whole team still dreams of winning the coveted title.
“It’s similar to the World Cup: playing well doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll win. However, our team is more experienced and mature now, and the dream of everyone at the club is to win the Champions League” added the former Benfica goalkeeper.
As well as winning the Champions League, Manchester City also have a treble in their sights and hope to become only the second English club, after Manchester United, to win a treble, after the Red Devils did so under Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999.
