In a surprising twist, seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has revealed his willingness to skip a Grand Prix in order to appear in a Hollywood movie. Hamilton, who turned down a role in Top Gun: Maverick last year due to scheduling conflicts, has now expressed his willingness to take the opportunity, should it arise again. However, he assured fans that his focus remains on his F1 career, even as he lends his expertise to an F1 movie project.
Hamilton, who currently races for the Mercedes team, is not only acting as a consultant, but also as executive producer on a film featuring Brad Pitt as a retired F1 driver. The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, director of Top Gun: Maverick, aims to capture the essence of the exciting world of Formula 1. Although Hamilton doesn’t want a leading role on screen, he hasn’t ruled out a possible cameo. Reflecting on his ambitions, the British driver said: “I’m going to wait for my movie debut, because I’m going to need to practice and practice… If Top Gun 3 happens, I’ll take part, and I’ll miss a race for it, just so you know.”
Amid Hamilton’s Hollywood aspirations, his championship rival Sergio Perez is facing a worrying reality. After Max Verstappen’s victory in Monaco, the Dutchman extended his lead by 39 points, leaving Pérez, who represents Red Bull Racing, with a tough climb to the world title. The Mexican driver had a disappointing race, finishing outside the points, which hurt his championship aspirations.
With Verstappen’s formidable form, Pérez was advised to redirect his focus and abandon the title chase. The harsh assessment of their chances highlights the widening gap between the two contenders. While Perez reflects on his current situation, it remains to be seen how he will react to this setback and whether he will be able to resurface in the coming races.
As the Formula 1 season progresses, Hamilton’s possible involvement in the F1 movie and his commitment to his racing career will undoubtedly be closely monitored. Fans will be curious to see if Hollywood’s fascination will succeed in keeping the legendary driver away from the racetrack, even temporarily. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez faces an uphill battle to close the gap on his championship rival Max Verstappen, as the intense competition within the sport continues to captivate racing enthusiasts around the world.
