Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has refused to comment on reports linking Tottenham striker Harry Kane to Real Madrid. The 29-year-old Englishman has been strongly linked with a move away from Tottenham, with Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Real Madrid being touted as possible destinations.
The links with Real Madrid have intensified following the decision of Ballon d’Or holder Karim Benzema to leave the club to join Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad for an astronomical salary of over US$100 million per season. Although Benzema did not clarify his future plans in his most recent press conference, it is believed that he will play his last game in Real Madrid colors on Sunday against Atheltic Bilbao. He is expected to make the announcement and, as a result, Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Kane.
Before the game against Bilbao, Ancelotti was asked his opinion of the striker and whether the attempt to bring him to the Bernabéu would materialize. The Italian responded by saying that, although he admires Kane as a “top player”, he wasn’t in a position to talk about the future of any player other than those already in his squad.
“You’re really interested in what’s going to happen next season. I can talk about my future, but not about the future of the team, which is ongoing. Kane is a great player, but he’s a Tottenham player and we have to respect him and Tottenham. What I do know is that next season’s team will be very competitive. The Real Madrid team always is. It will be a different team, but it will be competitive no matter what.” commented Ancelotti.
However, Kane is believed to have prioritized a move to the Premier League before moving to Spain, with Manchester United being the obvious choice. The Red Devils are looking for a world-class center forward as part of their rebuilding plans under Erik Ten Hag, and Kane is supposedly the first option on the Dutchman’s list. The race is currently wide open, with no formal contact between United and Tottenham.
