In a surprising twist, Brazilian club Corinthians have entered the race to secure the services of midfielder Matías Rojas from Argentinian club Racing. With Rojas’ contract about to expire in June, the 27-year-old Paraguayan has become a hot commodity on the transfer market, attracting attention from clubs both in Brazil and abroad. Corinthians, known as Timão, have already formally submitted a contract offer to Rojas, joining Botafogo, who have expressed their interest in the talented midfielder.
Racing, however, face an uphill battle to keep Rojas, as the player’s possible departure looms. Although the club has offered a renewal deal, it seems that it is proving difficult for the Paraguayan player to resist the financial lure of foreign offers. Rojas, who has already represented his national team, is expected to make a decision on his future in the next few days.
For Corinthians, the opportunity to acquire Rojas on a free transfer is undoubtedly an attractive prospect. The club’s board has been actively pursuing these economic strategies since it took over, and Rojas fits this profile perfectly. What’s more, if the deal goes through and Corinthians progress in the prestigious Copa Libertadores, Conmebol regulations will allow Rojas to compete for Timão, despite his previous involvement with Racing in the tournament. However, the Paraguayan midfielder will only be able to wear the Corinthians shirt from July 3, when the Brazilian transfer window opens.
Rojas made a significant impact at Racing, contributing seven goals and two assists in just 14 appearances for the Argentinian side. As Corinthians step up their efforts to secure his signature, fans are eagerly awaiting Rojas’ decision, which could shape the next chapter of his career and potentially strengthen the Corinthians team with his undeniable talent.
