Despite Mohamed Salah claiming that he was “devastated” after Liverpool missed out on the chance to play in the Champions League next season, Jurgen Klopp insisted that he is not worried about the Egyptian’s future.
The winger shared his thoughts on social media as Liverpool missed out on the chance to finish in the top four following Manchester United’s 4-1 win over Chelsea. Klopp’s side should finish fifth in the Premier League table and will play in the UEFA Europa League next season.
Klopp, however, assured Liverpool fans that there was no reason to panic as Salah is set to remain at Anfield after a difficult campaign.
“Mo loves it here and Mo was part of that. He apologized for what ‘we’ did – not for ‘what the other guys did, but I had to go with them’. Everything is fine“, said Klopp on Friday.
Having signed a new three-year contract worth £350,000 a week with Liverpool last summer, Salah, who has scored 30 goals in 50 games for the club this season, as well as providing another 15 assists, has been a key figure and a talisman, even more so after Sadio Mane’s departure to Bayern Munich.
When asked what he thought about the speculation about the 30-year-old Egyptian winger’s future, Klopp said: “Don’t worry, no. I only heard him say it, but I couldn’t read anything that could lead in that direction. I only heard what he said, but I couldn’t read anything that could lead in that direction.”
“If one day a player came up to me and said, ‘oh, we haven’t qualified for the Champions League, I have to leave’, I’d take him to the other club myself,” added the German.
With Roberto Firmindo also set to leave the club, Salah is the only remaining player from Liverpool’s famous trident of recent years. He is expected to play a key role next season as Liverpool press Manchester City for the Premier League title, and Arsenal should also be in what looks like an anticipated three-way race next season for the league title.
