The Cleveland Cavaliers’ 2022-23 NBA season ended with a Game 5 loss to the New York Knicks. One of the biggest unknowns as the club approaches the summer is what will happen to Caris LeVert and his upcoming free agent period.
The Cavaliers acquired LeVert during the 2022 NBA trade deadline, when they sent Ricky Rubio and three draft picks to the Indiana Pacers in exchange for the veteran. Although LeVert’s tenure with the Cavaliers has not been without its obstacles, he has been a reliable contributor, averaging 12.4 points per game and shooting 38% from beyond the arc over two seasons.
LeVert’s greatest performance came against the Knicks in the playoffs, when he was thrust into the starting line-up due to his excellent play. Despite Cleveland’s offensive problems, LeVert averaged 15 points per game in 34 minutes.
While the Cavaliers consider LeVert’s future, the guard has revealed his intentions. When asked if he wants to stay in Cleveland, LeVert said emphatically: “Absolutely”.
This won’t be an easy decision for the Cavaliers. Although LeVert showed talent, he fought with consistency and established a steady place in the team. Also, with the Cavaliers now rebuilding, it’s unclear whether they will prioritize the renewal of a veteran player.
Regardless, LeVert’s desire to remain in Cleveland will certainly influence the team’s decision-making process as it prepares for the 2023-24 NBA season. The Cavaliers will have several crucial decisions to make at the start of the offseason, and what they finally decide with LeVert could have a major influence on the future of the franchise.
LeVert’s willingness to stay with the Cavaliers indicates that he sees promise in the team and is prepared to work hard to achieve success with them. In addition, your knowledge and leadership can be important assets to the young team as it develops and grows.
It remains to be seen what the Cavaliers will do with LeVert, but as the offseason unfolds, fans are looking for information about the team’s intentions for the coming season.
