Brazil, after losing 2-3 to Italy
in their opening match, are preparing for their game against the Dominican Republic on Thursday. While the Seleção is ready to win, several fights have taken place in other groups.
England managed a relatively easy 1-0 win against a weak Tunisia side in their first match of the FIFA U-20 World Cup at the Diego Maradona Stadium in the Argentine capital to start their campaign on a positive note. The young Englishmen started the match quickly, opening up a decisive lead in the first half and holding on in the second to take all three points.
Dane Scarlett outpaced his marker 20 minutes into the first half and headed Harvey Vale’s ball into a dangerous area past Tunisian goalkeeper Dries Arfaoui, giving Ian Foster’s side a deserved 1-0 lead at the break. Although Tunisia showed more vigour in the second half, England kept control of the game and held on to win 1-0, moving up to top spot in Group E, but only momentarily.
Meanwhile, South Korea, runners-up at the 2019 U-20 World Cup, managed to pick up three points against 2013 champions France in an excellent performance. The Koreans scored an early goal through Seung Won Lee in the 22nd minute and Young Jun Lee added another in the second half. Alan Virginius’ penalty in the 70th minute made things interesting, but the Koreans managed to keep their cool in the last tense minutes and came away with the win.
In Group F, Gambia beat Honduras in an entertaining encounter, which also saw the fastest goal scored in the tournament so far, with Gambian center forward Adama Bojang scoring in the first minute. Marco Aceituno equalized minutes later, but Bojang’s late goal proved decisive. Nevertheless, Uruguay’s emphatic 4-0 win over Iraq ensured England topped Group E.
