The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has yet to appoint a successor since former Brazilian national team coach Tite resigned following the failure of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. It’s been a long time since the World Cup, but there’s still no confirmation about Brazil’s next coach. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has been tipped as the CBF’s preferred choice to take over, but it seems the Italian is not eager to part with his beloved club.
The Seleção are due to play two friendlies in June and, although there has been no confirmation about the opponents, it has been reported that Brazil could face African teams. With no clarity on a new coach, GOAL reported that Ramon Menezes, the technical director of Brazil’s under-20 team, is expected to coach the first team in the upcoming friendlies.
During the previous international break, Menezes was in charge of Brazil’s friendly against Morocco, which they lost 2-1.
Although the CBF was keen to have a permanent coach in place before the June friendlies, its search for Ancelotti has so far not yielded a positive result and so the Brazilian federation is stuck in a kind of limbo. It has been reported that the federation’s top authorities are still confident of convincing Ancelotti to take over as coach of the Brazilian national team.
Meanwhile, Menezes also has the added responsibility of leading the Brazilian U-20 team at the upcoming U-20 World Cup in Argentina in a week’s time.
After the 4-0 defeat suffered by Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League, Ancelotti reiterated his desire to continue at the Santiago Bernabéu, in a coup de grace for the CBF.
“Nobody doubts my future, because the president was very clear a fortnight ago,” said the Italian, who reaffirmed that he will stay next season to fight for another Champions League title.
It will be interesting to see what action the Brazilian federation takes next, following Don Carlo’s latest statement.
