Keita, Firmino, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Milner are believed to be leaving. English soccer giants Liverpool are set for a major overhaul of their squad in the summer transfer market, after reports emerged that the Reds have approved the departure of up to four key names at the end of the season, three of whom are midfielders.
German manager Jürgen Klopp has mentioned on several occasions during the season the lack of depth in his team’s underwhelming performance in this Premier League campaign, as well as in other cup competitions. The four players likely to leave the club include James Milner, a club legend, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, who at one point was the club’s most prized youth talent, Naby Keita and another member of the squad, Brazilian veteran Roberto Firmino.
Milner has already agreed terms with Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion and is set to join the Seagulls at the end of the season in an attempt to break the all-time games record, currently held by Gareth Barry. Firmino, on the other hand, hasn’t revealed his plans for the future, although there have been several offers made to the Brazilian by clubs from the MLS, Brazil and other top European leagues. The 31-year-old still has talent and could shine elsewhere at the top level after leaving Anfield. Chamberlain and Keita’s plans are not yet known.
All the signs point to a big summer transfer spree for Klopp’s side, even though they missed out on a possible deal that would have brought Jude Bellingham to the club. The Englishman has decided to leave for Real Madrid and, after a protracted transfer saga, Liverpool are believed to be chasing the signings of Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister and Chelsea star Mason Mount. Although Chelsea’s plans regarding their next manager seem unclear, Mount remains a viable option for Liverpool, who have also been linked with players such as Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo, although no concrete inquiries have been made. Either way, it looks like an exciting summer window could be underway at Anfield.
