In the fourth round of the Brasileirão Série A, Palmeiras produced a dominant performance against Goiás, scoring five unanswered goals to secure victory. Meanwhile, Botafogo managed to secure a 2-0 win over Atlético-MG, with goals from Victor Sá and Matheus Nascimento.
Botafogo beats Atlético-MG 2-0
With a dominant performance, Botafogo secured a 2-0 win over Atlético-MG on Sunday. Victor Sá opened the scoring for Botafogo in the 30th minute, while Matheus Nascimento sealed the win with a fine finish in the 60th minute.
Botafogo didn’t dominate possession, but had more shots on goal (7). Botafogo’s defensive solidity and clinical finishing were decisive. With the result, Botafogo maintain their two-point lead at the top of the table, while Atlético-MG are 15th with four points from four games.
After the match, Botafogo’s assistant coach, Vitor Severino, praised the team’s performance and emphasized the importance of the meritocracy system, saying that there is no reserve team and that the coach chooses the best pieces for each match. Botafogo’s next game is against Corinthians, while Atlético-MG face Cuiabá.
Palmeiras beat Goiás 5-0
Palmeiras comfortably beat Goiás 5-0 in Sunday’s Serie A match.
The reigning champions took the lead early on, with Artur opening the scoring in the 10th minute. Goiás’ situation went from bad to worse when Lucas Halter was sent off in the 41st minute for a foul on the last man, after VAR intervention.
Palmeiras went berserk after the break, with Sidimar (48′) scoring an unfortunate own goal just three minutes into the second half. Raphael Veiga scored Palmeiras’ third goal in the 78th minute, followed by Endrick in the 83rd minute and Dudu in the 90th minute to complete the rout.
With this win, Palmeiras remain in second place in the Brasileirão Série A table, just two points behind the league leaders. Goiás, on the other hand, are 18th in the table, with three points from their first four games.
São Paulo beat Internacional 2-0
São Paulo beat Internacional 2-0 in their Serie A Brazilian Championship match on Sunday. The home side took the lead in the 33rd minute, with Luciano scoring after missing a penalty. Internacional struggled to find an equalizer and São Paulo doubled their lead in the 70th minute when Pablo Maia scored. Despite the away side’s best efforts, they were unable to recover and São Paulo held on to secure the three points.
São Paulo could have won by a bigger margin, but they missed two great chances. Even so, the win was a much-needed boost for São Paulo, who had gone two games without a win in all competitions. With the result, the team climbed to 5th place in the Brazilian Serie A table, while Internacional remained in 7th. São Paulo face Fortaleza in their next match, while Internacional host Athletico-PR.
Grêmio and Red Bull Bragantino draw 3-3
Grêmio and Red Bull Bragantino played out a 3-3 draw in the Serie A of the Brasileirão on Sunday. The match at the Gremio Arena began with a penalty for Gremio, which Franco Cristaldo converted in the sixth minute. However, Red Bull Bragantino responded quickly with a goal from Matheus Fernandes (9′) three minutes later.
The nine-minute goal fest in the second half had its ups and downs. A goal from Eduardo Sasha in the 52nd minute completed the turnaround for the visitors. Luis Suárez (56′) then equalized, followed by a goal from Everton (62′) just six minutes later, putting Grêmio in control of the game.
There was yet another twist when Thiago Borbas (90’+1′) scored in stoppage time to salvage a point for the visitors.
The draw leaves Grêmio on 7 points after four games, in 7th place, and Bragantino in 12th, with 5 points.
Bahia beat Curitiba 3-1
Bahia won a comfortable 3-1 victory against Curitiba at the Arena Fonte Nova on Sunday.
The home side went ahead in the 16th minute when Victor Luis scored an unfortunate own goal. The game seemed lacklustre, as both teams lacked attacking power. But a six-minute spell in the second half turned out to be decisive. Curitiba managed to equalize in the 63rd minute with a goal from Gabriel Boschilia. However, Bahia quickly regained the lead with a goal from Gabriel Teixeira in the 65th minute. David Duarte (68′) sealed the win just three minutes later.
With the result, Bahia moved up to ninth place in the league standings, with two wins and two defeats from their first four games. Meanwhile, Curitiba suffered their third defeat of the season and remain in 19th place.
Bahia will now look to build on that result when they face Santos in their next league game. Curitiba, on the other hand, will be looking for their first win when they face Vasco in their next game.
Cuiabá secures late win over América-MG
Cuiabá won a dramatic 2-1 victory over América-MG in a very tight Serie A match.
Aloísio put América-MG ahead early on with a well-taken goal in the 12th minute. The home side looked like they were going to hold on to victory, until Marlon Lopes scored an own goal in the 85th minute to draw Cuiabá level. Matheus Cavichioli (89′) received a red card for a handball. América-MG were left with just 10 men on the pitch. Ronald took advantage of the numerical advantage to score the winning goal for Cuiabá in injury time.
The drama of the game continued when the referee awarded a penalty to the home side. But then the incident was reviewed by the VAR. That ended América-MG’s hopes of recovering. With the win, Cuiabá climbed to 13th in the standings, while América-MG stayed bottom with four defeats.
Athletico-PR beat Flamengo 2-1
Athletico-PR came out 2-1 victors in a thrilling match against Flamengo in the Brazilian Serie A.
Gabriel Barbosa opened the scoring with a penalty in the 15th minute. Later, Vitor Roque leveled the score for the home side in the 29th minute. The game remained tied until the 80th minute, when Athletico-PR’s Erick scored to secure the three points for the hosts.
Flamengo had the best statistics of both teams, with 60% possession and 14 shots on goal. But the away side were not incisive in front of goal. The result puts Athletico-PR in 10th place with 6 points, while Flamengo are in 16th, just above the relegation zone, with 3 points.
