The Brazilian had a fantastic season in Europe, scoring 12 goals in as many games.
Real Madrid’s Brazilian sensation Vinicius Jr. was the only player from the Seleção to make the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season. In a combined Champions League team that, unsurprisingly, included the vast majority of players from the two teams that took part in the final, Manchester City and Italian giants Inter Milan, Vinicius Jr. was joined by Real Madrid’s Belgian goalkeeper Thiabut Courtois, who made up the rest of the team. There were nine players from the two finalists, including seven from champions Manchester City.
The UEFA Champions League side opted for a four-man defense in front of Courtois, with Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Alessandro Bastoni and Gianluca Dimarco. The two-man pivot in midfield was as expected, as the new partnership of John Stones and Rodri inspired a new school of thought this season. Maestro Kevin de Bruyne was deployed in the number ten position, one of the team’s simplest choices.
There was a three-pronged attacking setup, in which Vinicius Jr. and Bernardo Silva were chosen either side of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, who scored 12 goals in the Champions League and 52 in all competitions, breaking Premier League scoring records.
As for the Brazilian players in the team, only Vinicius Jr. managed to get a place in the team, which is quite rare. However, Vinicius’ presence in the team cannot be disputed, considering the kind of impact he has had this season. The Brazilian continued his good form from last season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. The striker was also in top form in the knockout phase of the competition, scoring twice as Madrid beat six-time champions Liverpool. Vini also scored in the semi-final against eventual champions Manchester City, although he missed the match.
