Santos Futebol Clube has received a tempting offer from a Turkish club for its defender Eduardo Bauermann.
Negotiations are ongoing and Santos are expected to make a final decision on the transfer in the next few days. Sources close to Bauermann express confidence that the deal will be completed successfully.
However, Santos is carefully examining the viability of the proposed deal due to certain circumstances surrounding Bauermann. The defender was implicated in the “Betting Mafia” scandal, which led to him being suspended by the club as the investigations progressed. Santos are considering the possibility of terminating Bauermann’s contract and allowing him to join the Turkish club for free, potentially keeping a percentage of his economic rights.
Eduardo Bauermann received one of the lightest sentences from the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) for his involvement in match-fixing. While other individuals involved faced severe suspensions from the sport, Bauermann received a 12-game suspension.
Santos has been cautious in dealing with the situation. Despite internal pressure to terminate the defender’s contract, the club opted to act prudently and await further court rulings.
The likelihood of Bauermann staying at Santos has always been slim. After learning of his relatively lenient punishment, the club explored various possibilities, including negotiating the defender’s transfer.
