Barcelona have reportedly secured the signing of Vitor Roque, the talented striker from Athletico Paranaense, for the upcoming European season. The deal, reportedly worth around 40 million euros (approximately R$209.6 million), was facilitated by former Barcelona player Deco, who is currently the club’s technical secretary.
However, the official announcement of the transfer was delayed due to Barcelona’s salary restrictions. The club needs to get rid of three players to create enough financial space to register the Brazilian striker. These financial constraints also contributed to Lionel Messi’s departure, as Barcelona can no longer afford his wages.
Barcelona coach Xavi sees Vitor Roque’s versatility in attack as a valuable asset. The young Brazilian has the potential to be a natural replacement for the number 9 position currently occupied by Lewandowski, as well as providing speed and skill on the wings.
Roque emerged as one of the highlights of the Brazilian U-20 team during the South American U-20 Championship earlier this year. With six goals to his name, he played a key role in Brazil’s triumph, attracting the attention of several European soccer giants.
Vitor Roque began his career at Cruzeiro before joining Athletico Paranaense in 2022 for R$24 million. Since then, he has been an influential player for the team based at the Arena da Baixada. The young striker’s consistent performances for Athletico, coupled with his impressive displays at international level, have solidified his status as one of Brazilian soccer’s most promising talents.
Barcelona’s acquisition of Vitor Roque signifies their commitment to rejuvenating the team with young, dynamic players as the club faces its financial challenges.
