The main fight scheduled for UFC 289 could be the last fight for Amanda Nunes, who will face Irene Aldana this Saturday (June 10) in Vancouver, Canada.
Nunes has a more comprehensive set of skills compared to Aldana. Despite being a little older than Nunes, Aldana has put in impressive performances in her last two fights and has the potential to secure the bantamweight title through her boxing talent.
In the co-main event of UFC 289, Charles Oliveira returns to the octagon after losing the lightweight title against Islam Makhachev. His opponent, Beneil Dariush, is looking to extend his winning streak to nine and secure a shot at the title.
This fight promises an exceptional display of skills between two elite mixed martial arts artists. Dariush needs to be victorious to solidify his path to a title shot, but Oliveira poses a genuine threat. Oliveira’s danger transcends striking and ground techniques, and his size, versatility and strength pose considerable challenges. Although Dariush has posted impressive victories over opponents such as Mateusz Gamrot and Drew Dober, facing Oliveira represents a whole new level of competition.
Diana Belbita and Maria Oliveira will face each other in a very tight fight, with both fighters equally capable of coming out victorious. Belbita has suffered three defeats in her last four fights, including one by decision to Gloria de Paula. Meanwhile, Oliveira has lost twice by decision in his last three fights. It’s expected to be a hotly contested fight, and it’s quite possible that it will go all the way, as both fighters neutralize each other’s strengths.
It is also important to note that other fights involving Brazilian fighters have also been canceled. The middleweight bout between Stephen Thompson and Michel Pereira, in the main card, was withdrawn from the event in May, without an official reason being given for the cancellation. In addition, the featherweight bout between Canadian Hakeem Dawodu and Brazilian Lucas Almeida has also been withdrawn from the event.
