Manchester United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0, thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho, and manager Erik Ten Hag was particularly impressed with the latter, as he is making a name for himself. Ten Hag praised the display of the 18-year-old, who secured the three points with his last-minute goal at Old Trafford, and the Man United manager wants the Argentine sensation to compete for a place in the starting line-up.
The teenager was injured, missing two months of action, but on his return, Garnacho continued where he left off, scoring another crucial goal and bringing United closer to dropping points against Leeds United with a 2-2 draw.
“He did almost everything well and that will give him confidence, which is good for the rest of the season,” said Ten Hag, praising the youngster.
“He’s back, that will give him confidence and he can make an impact,” added the coach.
With the kind of form Garnacho has been showing, it would be easy to forget that the teenager only made his debut for the Premier League giants in April last year, and had a full, brilliant first season until injury halted his progress.
So far, the Argentinian has been used as a substitute by Ten Hag, but the Dutchman has already given Garnacho his next challenge, and he should start pushing for a place in the first team.
“I hope he can progress so quickly that he can compete for a place in the first team, because that’s his next challenge,” said the former Ajax coach.
Born in Madrid, the talented winger joined United’s famous youth academy in 2020 and has excelled ever since. Given his obvious talent, the club acted quickly to sign the starlet to a long-term contract recently and, after his 14-minute appearance, the Argentine showed signs that he deserved many more minutes next season.
The Red Devils are ready to secure a place in the Champions League next season, and Alejandro will have plenty of opportunities to establish himself in the first team.
