Botafogo maintains winning record and beats Corinthians in comfortable 3-0 win
Botafogo beat Corinthians 3-0 in a Serie A match. Tiquinho Soares, the 32-year-old striker who arrived at Botafogo in August last year, scored two goals and helped his team dominate Corinthians.
Soares opened the scoring in the 12th minute of a half totally dominated by the hosts. The striker added another goal from the penalty spot in the 65th minute. Carlos Eduardo sealed the win with a goal in the 81st minute, after receiving an assist from substitute Matias Segovia.
The win maintains Botafogo’s 100% record in the league, while Corinthians dropped to 17th place. The two teams play again at the weekend, with Botafogo taking on Bahia and Corinthians facing São Paulo.
Fortaleza and São Paulo draw with no goals and red cards
Fortaleza and São Paulo played out a goalless draw in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A on Thursday. The match was evenly contested, but the two teams couldn’t break the deadlock.
Fortaleza were down to ten men in the 63rd minute when Emanuel Britez was shown the red card. São Paulo also had a player sent off when Rodrigo Nestor was shown the red card in the 71st minute. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the two teams fought hard to find a winner, but ended up having to settle for a point each.
The result leaves Fortaleza in 6th place in the standings, while São Paulo are in 7th place.
Zé Roberto scores and Coritiba draw 1-1 with Vasco da Gama
Coritiba and Vasco da Gama drew 1-1 on Thursday. The home side created several chances in the first half, with a total of eight shots. The first half remained goalless until the final minute of stoppage time, when Coritiba’s Zé Roberto scored to give his side the lead at the break. In the second half, Vasco da Gama pressed forward in search of an equalizer and eventually got it in the 80th minute through Erick Marcus dos Santos Oliveira.
Vasco showed their dominance in the second half, with 64% possession. Despite having the ball for much of the game, Vasco’s performance was poor, as they failed to create any clear chances. Both teams pressed for victory in the final moments as the game opened up, but the match ended in a draw, with each team earning a point.
Coritiba are now 19th in the standings, while Vasco da Gama are 14th.
