Paris Saint-Germain could lose two of their most valuable assets as Neymar and Lionel Messi are increasingly likely to leave the club. While it is all but confirmed that Messi will not be renewing his contract with PSG, Neymar could also be on his way out of the Parc des Princes, with a Premier League club offering the Brazilian star an exit route.
According to a report in ’90min’, Newcastle United would be interested in signing Neymar from PSG, as the star striker has been the target of criticism due to his irregular performances for the club. Recently, PSG fans protested outside Neymar’s home, calling for him to leave the Parisian club, and Newcastle could offer the former Barcelona striker an escape route.
The Magpies are increasingly likely to finish in the top four, which means they will probably make some valuable additions to their squad to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.
The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) took control of Newcastle for £300 million (around R$2.2 billion) and since then the club has been on an upward trajectory. Neymar would be the perfect signing for the Premier League side to make their ambitions clear as they look to reach the top of the soccer pyramid.
Due to the controversies in the Brazilian captain’s past and his dubious injury record, PSG fans seem to have developed a dislike for Neymar. If he tries to move to St. James’ Park, the star striker will be joined by his compatriots Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, both of whom have been instrumental in the club’s resurgence.
Neymar played 29 games in the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 18 goals and providing another 16 assists, before suffering an ankle injury that brought his campaign to an early end just before PSG faced Bayern Munich in the Champions League, resulting in the Ligue 1 giants being eliminated from the competition.
A move to the Premier League would also help the 31-year-old reignite his career, which has stagnated since he joined PSG, as he was considered a great player, but Neymar’s time at the Parc des Princes was marked by injuries and controversy.
