Cruzeiro take provisional lead with two goals from Wesley
Cruzeiro temporarily took the lead in the Brasileirão Série A after beating Santos 2-1 in a thrilling match at the Independência Stadium on Saturday, May 6. Wesley, recently signed from Palmeiras, was the star of the game, scoring both of Cruzeiro’s goals and breaking a run of 32 games without scoring. Meanwhile, Angelo scored a goal for Santos, but it wasn’t enough to avoid their second defeat of the season.
Both teams played with high intensity, with Cruzeiro opening the scoring in the 21st minute through Wesley. Santos had the chance to equalize, but Rafael Cabral made a great save. In the second half, Ângelo (57′) scored a brilliant goal to level the score from the bench, but Wesley (62′) scored again for Cruzeiro just five minutes later.
Despite Santos’ best efforts to score an equalizer, they failed to create any clear chances and Cruzeiro came out on top. The win was a welcome one for Cruzeiro fans, and the team will now face Fluminense in their next game. Santos, on the other hand, face Bahia in their next match.
Vasco and Fluminense draw with heroics from both goalkeepers
Fluminense and Vasco played out a very tight match in the fourth round of the Brasileirão at the Maracanã stadium.
Vasco got off to a good start, scoring in the first minute through Pedro Raul after a defensive error by Fluminense. Despite the early setback, Fluminense reacted positively and created a few chances, but Vasco goalkeeper Léo Jardim made several excellent saves.
In the second half, Fluminense increased their intensity, pressuring Vasco’s defenders and finally equalizing with Lima’s goal in the 55th minute. Fluminense continued to press in search of the winning goal, but Jardim was excellent in goal, making several crucial saves. Vasco, on the other hand, relied on the individual skills of their players, with Gabriel Pec and Alex Teixeira looking threatening on the counter-attack. However, neither team managed to add to their tally and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Fluminense dominated the entire game, with 70% of the possession, including 8 shots on goal, but Vasco maintained their defensive capabilities, thanks to their goalkeeper. The home side were frustrated throughout the game as their attacking play and dominance failed to bring them the three points. They were a little unlucky as two of Fluminense’s goals hit the post.
Despite sharing the points, the two teams played an excellent match that entertained the fans until the final whistle.
