F1 is set to return for the fifth race of the season in Miami next weekend, with the first two practice sessions taking place on Friday, May 5. The final practice session and qualifying will be held on Saturday, May 6, with the main race taking place on Sunday, May 7.
This season has not yet seen rainy conditions. However, this could change due to the weather forecast in Miami for the weekend. Although the chances of rain for Friday’s practice session are so low (4%), the percentage looks set to rise to 40% for Saturday’s practice and qualifying session. However, it’s much worse on race day, as the chances of rain on Sunday are 60%. It will therefore be possible to see the first wet race of the season on Miami’s temporary street circuit, around the Hard Rock Stadium.
The forecast is for partly cloudy skies and wind gusts of up to 35 km/h. Partly cloudy skies are also expected on Saturday, with the possibility of thunderstorms. Wind gusts could reach 43 km/h. On Sunday the weather will remain the same, unless the wind gusts decrease a little – up to 32 km/h.
Temperature:
– During training (Friday) 20 to 30 degrees Celsius is expected.
– On qualifying day (Saturday) – 24 to 31 degrees.
– Race day (Sunday) – 24 to 30 degrees.
Pirelli, the tire supplier for the F1 race, has selected its tire compounds for the upcoming event, taking into account the expected weather conditions. The hard tire will be identified by a white wall and will be made of the C2 compound. The medium tire will have a yellow wall and will be made of C3 compound. Finally, the soft tire, which will have a red wall, will be made of the C4 compound.
The Miami race is expected to be an important race this season. Sergio Perez is in contention for the title against leader Max Verstappen, who is currently trailing the Mexican at the top of the drivers’ standings by six points. Also given Ferrari’s pole position in Baku and their long-awaited upgrade in Miami, they are expected to do well in this race and challenge Red Bull, who currently dominate with a 93-point lead at the top of the Constructors’ Championship.
