After a thrilling race in Azerbaijan, the Formula 1 action heads to Miami for the second edition of the Grand Prix. The event will be held next weekend, May 5-7, and will be the first of three races to be held in the USA over the course of the season.
Sergio Perez’s victories in the sprint races and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix set the stage for an exciting second half of the first round of the 2023 season, with Formula 1 heading to the United States for the first time this year. The Mexican driver’s back-to-back wins have reignited the fight for the title, with him now just six points behind his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen in the drivers’ championship standings. Behind them are Fernando Alonso with 60 points and Lewis Hamilton with 48 points. A win in Miami would give Perez the lead in the championship and further intensify the competition between the two drivers.
In the constructors’ championship, Red Bull holds a comfortable lead of 93 points over Aston. Mercedes are third with 76 points, while Ferrari are fourth with 62 points. Mclaren is fifth with 14 points in the championship. With plenty of points up for grabs at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix, the battle for the drivers’ and constructors’ championships is likely to heat up even more.
Meanwhile, Ferrari, which won its first pole of the season in Baku, will upgrade the team’s car in Miami. Team boss Frederic Vasseur confirmed that more upgrades are lined up.
At Mclaren, meanwhile, driver Lando Norris believes that the major upgrade to the MCL60 that was introduced in Baku will have a greater impact. The Briton believes that the higher-speed corners in Miami will allow him to feel a greater impact.
