Serie A – Inter, Juventus and Lazio all won. Milan equalized.
A good performance from Serie A giants Inter Milan sank helpless Hellas Verona. Two goals from Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez, and a goal from former AC Milan striker Hakan Calhanoglu, were key to Inter’s big win as Serie A draws to a close. Verona managed to maintain their balance for the most part at the start of the game, as Simone Verdi’s shot on goal was saved by veteran Handanovic. Dzeko’s header in the opening minutes forced a save from Lorenzo Montipo as the sides remained level. Montipo made another impressive save as Danilo D’Ambrosio’s header was deflected by the Italian.
However, his efforts would be in vain, as Ginaluca Dimarco’s cross was put into his own net by Adolfo Gaich. That mistake opened the floodgates when Hakan Calhanoglu doubled Inter’s lead with a long-range shot. Dzeko would add to the pain just a few minutes later, finishing off a clear chance to take his team to three goals. A few lapses in Verona’s defense allowed Martinez to score his team’s fourth goal. Veteran Dzeko scored with a fine finish, before Lautaro Martinez added the sixth in the final moments of the game, with Inter securing fourth place.
Meanwhile, Juventus beat Lecce 2-1 thanks to goals from Dusan Vlahovic and Leandro Paredes, while AC Milan drew 1-1 with Salernitana. Lazio beat Sassuolo 2-0, thanks to an early goal from Felipe Anderson, as Maurizio Sarri’s side reclaimed second place.
Atlético de Madrid – Cádiz – 5:1
In La Liga, Atlético Madrid thrashed Cadiz, with veteran Antoine Griezmann shining. The Frenchman scored his side’s first two goals in extraordinary fashion, before Alvaro Morata’s calm finish from inside the area gave the hosts a third. Diego Simeone’s men were awarded a penalty just before the hour mark, which Griezmann gave away to Yannick Ferreira Carrasco. The Belgian fired in a penalty, before Choco Lozano scored to reduce the deficit for the visitors. However, Nahuel Molina’s finish just a minute later sealed Atlético’s 5-1 win at the Estadio Metropolitano, which gave them a decisive lead over Real Madrid for second place.
Getafe – Celta – 1:0
Elsewhere, Enes Unal’s early penalty was enough to sink an unimpressive Celta de Vigo, giving Getafe a much-needed boost in the relegation battle.
