Vasco coach Mauricio Barbieri attributed his team’s defeat to Bahia in the Brazilian Championship to a lack of effective finishing. Barbieri was pleased with the team’s performance, including their high intensity and ability to create chances, but they failed to convert them into goals.
Bahia beat Vasco da Gama 1-0, with Thaciano scoring at the end of the first half. With the defeat, Vasco are now ninth in the table with four points from three games. This was Bahia’s first win of the season, having lost their first two games to Bragantino and Botafogo.
Barbieri acknowledged the team’s difficulty in playing with purpose, but remained optimistic about the potential for improvement. He explained that creativity and other factors play a role in their ability to perform well, but ultimately they need to finish better and be more efficient.
During the match, two players, Carabajal and Rwan Cruz, made their Vasco debuts. Barbieri acknowledged their strong performances in training, but admitted that they weren’t able to produce on the pitch.
“They’re players who have trained very well, but I don’t think they’ve managed to reproduce in the game what they’ve been showing in training,” said Barbieri.
Despite the defeat, Barbieri differentiated between the team’s performance and the result. He emphasized that the players showed high intensity and created many chances, which was a positive aspect of the game.
Looking ahead, Vasco have a week to prepare for their next match against Fluminense. Barbieri stressed the importance of improving finishing and playing with more purpose. He expressed confidence in the team’s potential and reiterated his commitment to working hard towards its goals.
As for the fans, they are looking forward to the next match, hoping that Vasco will recover and show a better performance. The game will take place at the Maracanã at 9pm on Saturday, and the team is determined to come out on top.
