Manchester United secured a narrow 1-0 victory over stubborn Brentford in the Premier League on Wednesday (April 5).
Rashford scored the winner in the 27th minute, following an attempt by Sabitzer, who received a beautiful ball from Antony. The former Ajax player played a sweet ball to break down the visitors’ defense and assisted Sabitzer, who did the rest.
Although the Brazilian’s pass may not go down as an assist, his contribution did not go unnoticed and was duly made.
In an interview with BBC Match of the Day, 25-year-old Rashford praised the patient play of his teammates. And Antony for his ‘very intelligent’ passing and admitted that Brentford made life difficult for the Old Trafford side.
“They (Brentford) are difficult to break down; they defend well in a block of five or six players, and you have to wait for openings. It’s a very clever pass from Antony, and it turns out to be a simple goal, but it was very difficult to break them down” he said.
United only managed three shots on goal, thanks to a resilient display from Thomas Frank’s side. Although the home side had 66% possession, they were frustrated for the most part, except for a good team goal that led to Rashford’s first league goal in three games.
With his latest effort, the English striker has now scored 27 goals and added nine assists in a total of 46 games for the club in all competitions. Erik Ten Hag’s men remain in fourth place with 53 points from 28 games as they look to secure a Champions League spot for next season.
