Crystal Palace beats West Ham in a 7-goal game
Palace have had some disappointing results in recent weeks. They drew 0-0 with Everton before suffering a 0-2 defeat to Wolves in midweek.
David Moyes’ side put their noses in front in the ninth minute when Tomas Soucek scored. Hodgsond’s men weren’t behind for long, just six minutes later they were level with a well-taken finish from Jordan Ayew, after he was expertly assisted by Michael Olise.
Palace were leading 2-1 with 20 minutes on the clock when Wilfried Zaha fired into an empty net while the entire West Ham defense slept. Another defensive error allowed Jeffrey Schlupp to add to his tally.
It was an eventful end to the first half, ten minutes before the break West Ham reduced the deficit when Michail Antonio headed in unmarked.
Eberechi Eze was fouled inside the area and the referee awarded a penalty. Eze converted to restore the two-goal lead. Nayef Aguerd, who took the penalty, scored and made it even again. Brazilian Lucas Paquetá played 68 minutes for West Ham but didn’t score.
Deniz Undav, Pascal Gross and Danny Welbeck shine as Brighton beat Wolves by six
Wolves traveled to the Amex hoping to maintain their winning momentum, but were completely undone by Brighton. Deniz Undav opened the scoring in the sixth minute, after a mistake by the visitors’ defense.
Pascal Gross made it 2-0 with a clever finish after a brilliant counter-attack led by Julio Enciso. Matheus Nunes made a great save from Jason Steele’s shot as Wolves tried to get back into the game.
Gross (26 mins) scored again after a sublime volley from the edge of the box to complete his brace – 3:0. Danny Welbeck (39 mins) scored the fourth after a header to make it 4-0 at half-time.
Three minutes after the restart, Welbeck added two more goals, one of them after an excellent shot from outside the area forced José Sá to clear the ball out of the net for the fifth time. It went from bad to worse for Wolves, as another defensive mix-up allowed Undav to steal the ball and close out the scoring.
In addition, Brentford hosted Nottingham Forest on Saturday, recording a 2-1 victory courtesy of two late goals from Ivan Toney (82) and Josh Dasilva (90 + 4). Earlier, Brazilian Danilo (45+1) opened the scoring, but Thomas Frank’s side recovered the three points thanks to a dramatic last-minute winner. His compatriots Danilo – Felipe and Lodi also played the full 90 minutes.
