Fluminense took no notice of Volta Redonda and scored a historic 7-0 victory in the second leg of the Carioca Championship semi-final. The Tricolor now await the clash between Vasco and Flamengo to find out their opponents in the grand final.
Of the seven goals scored by the tricolor, four were scored by Argentinian Germán Cano. In great form, Fluminense, led by coach Fernando Diniz, imposed their pace and attacking characteristics, completely dominating their opponents.
Since his arrival in 2022. center forward Cano continues to break records with every match. On Saturday afternoon, Cano reached the incredible milestone of 58 goals for Fluminense. Leaving fellow Argentine Dario Conca, with 56 goals for the tricolor, behind.
Fluminense’s first 45 minutes were impeccable, to say the least. Having lost the first leg 2-1, the Tricolor das Laranjeiras were only interested in a simple one-goal win.
But Diniz’s side came out with a lot of desire and two minutes into the first half, Keno made an excellent run and set up Samuel Xavier to open the scoring. Voltaço started the match very badly and looked disoriented on the pitch, unlike in the first game. When Ricardo Sena fouled him near the penalty area, Germán Cano took advantage of a free-kick and scored in the seventh minute.
Fluzão through Paulo Henrique Ganso, who provided a great pass to Alexsander, who did not forgive him and scored the third goal. Martinelli made it 4-0 and Germán Cano rounded off the first half with a 5-0 win.
In the second half, the tricolor repeated their momentum from the first half, dominating the game and controlling the action. Without much to do, Volta Redonda still had Alix Vinicius sent off for a penalty on Arias. The official penalty taker, Cano converted the spot-kick to score his third goal and at the end of the second half he rounded off the perfect 7-0 win with his fourth goal.
Fluminense now await their next opponents, who will come out of the clash between Vasco and Flamengo on Sunday at 6pm.
