Looks like Idah may be away. If true, not sure if I would like a loan to give him game time or just sell him. If Celtic sell him, will the money be spent to get in a proper replacement?
Personally I’m gutted we went out the Champions League the way we did, but if we are not going to improve the squad and our performance, you could only see some very punishing results in the group stages. That does players no good with confidence.
We are nowhere near the team we were last season and realistically we are only missing Taylor, Kyogo and Khun. Kyogo wasn’t scoring as well as in previous seasons, Khun played half a season, but GT always gave his all.
Why have we gone backwards? I cannot put my finger on it. I am not going to blame the manager; he has been great for us, but something is going on behind the scenes, as him and the players don’t seem happy.
I think benching Engels and playing Nygren in there is not getting the best out of either player. Tbh, I would put Engels in the role CM plays, as he played there with his previous team and that is why we bought him.
Hatate on his day is brilliant, but he hasn’t been at that level for some time, which might be because he wants to leave. Bernardo and McGowan should get more of a chance. We have Jota to come back, but Balikwisha should make a difference on the left until then. Jota can even play on the right.
We need new blood out on the right wing and a goal scorer. The CFR Cluj striker is by far the best striker we have been linked with imo, but we will not pay what they want. If Idah goes, Kenny would be our backup and to be fair to him, he works his backside off, which Idah doesn’t.
Even if 3 x £5-6 million players come in, we have still basically broken even with spending. The South American left back we are after, can play on the left or right, so that at least provides some defensive cover.
Our club needs to realise that investing now still matters, for the remainder of this season and future seasons. A good run in the Europa League will help build confidence and help with the domestic performances.
After supporting the club for almost 60 years, this is nothing new for us tbh, complacency has been our downfall before and it cannot and should not be again. We have the resources, we just need to will and desire to move forward.
